West Brom are set to support plans to replace the Championship’s profit and sustainability rules with a squad cost ratio when clubs vote on Friday.
ExpressAndStar.com understands Albion will vote in favour, aligning the second tier with the Premier League model.
The club have backed the switch since Shilen Patel’s Bilkul Football bought Albion from Guochuan Lai more than two years ago. Under the proposed system, spending on player costs is capped at 85 per cent of football revenue, and owners can inject up to £10 million each season towards revenue.
Second-tier sides want more freedom to invest in pursuit of the top flight, and the proposal needs support from 16 of the 24 clubs to pass.
PSR has been in place since 2017/18. Albion breached the £39 million three-year loss limit and were docked two points last month after a hearing. They maintain their innocence but, after receiving written reasons last week, chose not to appeal having already secured safety.
Premier League clubs approved the same model last November, moving away from PSR where £105 million losses over three years were allowed. Regardless of the sanction, Albion’s position under PSR was forecast to ease from this summer, and SCR would offer owners greater scope to speculate, tied to revenue growth.
