According to ExpressAndStar.com, West Brom are working on a deal to sign French right-back Nolan Galves from Rodez, with Southampton also pushing for the 23-year-old.

Galves is a leading target as Albion seek to bolster their wide defensive options. Talks are ongoing and the club hope to make progress in the coming days, with the player set to choose his destination.

Both clubs are thought to have agreements with Rodez, leaving the final decision in Galves' hands. QPR and Millwall have also been linked, along with Young Boys and OGC Nice.

Galves made 36 appearances for Rodez last season and recorded eight assists, including one in the Ligue 1 promotion or relegation play-off.

His arrival would continue Albion's defensive rebuild after Connor Townsend returned to The Hawthorns on Friday, following young centre-back Carter Pinnington's move from Liverpool last month. If he joins, he would be the sixth summer signing and the third defensive addition.

Defence remains a priority, while reinforcements are also being pursued in wide attacking areas. Mikey Johnston is currently the only recognised senior winger, and Albion retain an interest in bringing Danny Imray back.

Pre-season continued with a 4-1 win at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, while another Albion XI lost 3-1 to Notts County in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier the same day. Head coach James Morrison is looking to further strengthen his squad before the new Championship season.
