West Ham have decided to keep Nuno in charge despite relegation, ending days of uncertainty over his position.

The club said in a statement that he has committed to the role and that they remain committed to him, adding he is highly motivated to lead an immediate return and that promotion next season must be the target. They also pointed to his 2018 Championship title with Wolves, achieved with 99 points, and noted recent signs of progress.

The Hammers dropped out of the Premier League on Sunday, with Tottenham’s win at Everton sending them back to the Championship for the first time since 2011.

On Monday it was claimed talks had taken place and Nuno was set for the sack. By Tuesday, the mood had shifted to some board members wanting him to continue, and that is now the path taken.

Attention now turns to rebuilding for the Championship campaign under Nuno.
