Wolves have been relegated from the Premier League after West Ham drew at Crystal Palace on Monday, confirming the drop with five games remaining and ending an eight-season stay.
ExpressAndStar.com notes that a difficult weekend offered only a brief reprieve. Wolves lost 3-0 to Leeds, then Spurs conceded a late equaliser at home to Brighton.
The club’s modern top-flight era was built by Nuno Espirito Santo, whose side earned promotion, finished seventh in successive seasons, reached the Europa League quarter-final and the FA Cup semi-final.
In recent years Wolves have fought relegation after a series of recruitment mistakes and misjudgements from the hierarchy.
The past two campaigns have also brought the sackings of Gary O’Neil and Vitor Pereira, while chairman Jeff Shi left in December after a damaging summer and a dreadful start.
Rob Edwards was appointed head coach in November and, with no new manager bounce, the January window was used to prepare for the inevitable reality of relegation.
