West Ham lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, a setback in their Premier League survival fight. According to L'Équipe, the club are expected to lodge a complaint with PGMOL after a stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper David Raya.
Referee Chris Kavanagh reviewed the incident 17 times with VAR before cancelling Callum Wilson’s 90+5 finish. Officials took four minutes and 17 seconds to reach the decision for a foul by Pablo on Raya.
Mikel Arteta later described the call as courageous after Arsenal’s narrow win. West Ham, threatened with relegation to the Championship, take a very different view.
The club argue the length of the review suggested it was not a clear and obvious infringement.
A draw would have put West Ham level with Tottenham, who have a game in hand, in the relegation battle. The title race may also have hinged on this, as Arsenal remain five points ahead of Manchester City, having played one more, with two matches left.
