West Ham are interested in signing Connor Barron from Rangers this summer, Hayters.com understands.

Italian side Bologna are also keen on the 23-year-old and have approached Rangers over signing the midfielder.

The Scottish club are reluctant to lose Barron, however, who played 37 times in all competitions last season.

But Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to strengthen his options in the middle of the park following the departure of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for a fee of around £85m, and Barron has been identified as a target.

West Ham recently announced the appointment of former Rangers technical director Nils Koppen as their new director of player recruitment, who has been “tasked with identifying and recruiting the players needed to secure an immediate return to the Premier League”, the club say.

Koppen brought Barron to Rangers from Aberdeen when he worked for the Scottish side.

The permanent signing of Keiber Lamadrid, who spent last season on loan at the London Stadium, has been West Ham’s only addition of the summer window so far.

More departures are also expected at the club this summer, with Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville among those attracting Premier League interest.

The Hammers are keen on Everton’s Dwight McNeil to boost Espirito Santo’s squad in attack, meanwhile.
