West Ham United are still looking for new attacking players as the January transfer window gets closer. Everton striker Beto is now a serious option, according to journalist Harry Watkison. The Portuguese forward, aged 27, has barely played at Goodison Park this season. People close to the club say Everton will let him go if they can bring in a replacement first.

Beto saga:

Meanwhile, the Hammers are not alone in the chase. Serie A side AS Roma also want him. They are linked through the Friedkin Group and genuinely hope to take Beto back to Italy. Both teams have struggled to score goals, and that has held them back this season. Everton rely on older forwards but still waste chances too often. West Ham are also pushing Niclas Füllkrug towards an exit, with AC Milan strongly linked.

Füllkrug’s possible departure makes it urgent for West Ham to bring someone in. Josh Sargent from Norwich City has also been mentioned. There were talks around Endrick and Joshua Zirkzee as well. Those names, for now, look unlikely for January.

Right now, West Ham are focused on Beto. His strength and his successful period in Serie A with Udinese, although not that much at Everton, make him an appealing choice. The Merseyside club is ready to sell him. Roma being involved makes the situation more complicated.

There is talk that the Friedkin Group is looking at internal ideas. One rumour even mentions a possible swap that could send Roma striker Artem Dovbyk to Merseyside. That move might interest Beto. He has not fully adapted to Premier League football since joining Everton.

He has not scored much. The Guinea-Bissau striker has started a few matches and rarely found the net. Going back to Italy could attract him more than staying in England. West Ham still have a chance if they convince Beto to stay in the Premier League. That position could put them ahead in talks.

Even so, Serie A has a strong pull for him. Roma also have ownership connections working in their favour. As discussions continue, everything depends on what the player wants. Everton must choose whether to sign a direct replacement or make a bigger-picture move.

Should West Ham look for Beto?

In our view, it would be a gamble for West Ham if they sign Beto, and probably the wrong one. His struggles in England show he still hasn’t adapted to the league. The 27-year-old has scored only once in the Premier League this season, and he rarely starts games for the Toffees. That record offers no promise of quick success.

West Ham need someone proven if they want to move up the table. If they take a chance on another forward who is not scoring, it could make their problems worse instead of fixing them.
