West Ham United have Romeo Vermant on their shortlist of January transfer targets (h/t ExWHUEmployee).

Vermant broke onto the scene with 12 goals and five assists in 40 appearances last season before notching four goals and two assists in 15 outings this term.

The West Ham transfer target comes alive in the box, snapping at half-chances to put the ball in the back of the net.

What he lacks in physical presence, he more than makes up for with how active he is in the final third.

“Vermant is a striker who is clinical in and around the box,” according to former goalkeeper and Belgian pundit Frank Boeckx.

His ability to run the channels will also excite West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who reportedly wants faster players in his squad.

The Hammers could use fresh blood up top, and the 21-year-old striker is a serious target for the struggling club.

West Ham need all the help they can get as they bid to escape the relegation zone before May, and signing a striker is a priority.

However, Vermant isn’t a player who truly moves the needle for West Ham at this point.

While promising, he may not yet be ready for the demands of leading a Premier League team out of relegation danger.

His sharp movement and finishing are impressive, but West Ham need a proven goalscorer capable of handling the pressure from day one.

With the club desperate for results, signing an experienced and battle-hardened forward such as Ivan Toney would make far more sense.

Someone with his pedigree, presence and Premier League know-how could be the difference between survival and dropping to the second tier.
