The Standard claims West Ham are considering Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu as they seek a new wide player following relegation from the Premier League. Their search is tied to expected sales this summer.
Leicester are braced for bids for their Ghana international after their own drop to League One. Fatawu is at the World Cup and impressed off the bench against England in Boston on Tuesday.
Before West Ham’s interest, Besiktas tested Leicester’s resolve with a loan proposal for the 22-year-old. Fatawu has 84 Championship appearances with 36 goal contributions, and is viewed as a cut-price option. Like Leicester, West Ham must raise funds through player sales before committing significant fees.
West Ham are set to say goodbye to Crysencio Summerville, Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes. All three have Premier League suitors, with Bowen valued at £50m and Summerville at £43m, while clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham could face paying £80m for Fernandes.
It is unclear what fee Leicester would demand for Fatawu following relegation. Any move cannot be negotiated until he returns from the World Cup. Ghana’s 0-0 draw with England this week leaves them almost certain to reach the knockout stage.
