West Ham suffered a fresh injury setback when Jean-Clair Todibo was withdrawn in the warm-up before Sunday’s loss at Aston Villa, ahead of Leeds United’s looming FA Cup tie and the relegation run-in.

According to The Athletic, he pointed to his calf during a passing drill while speaking with the medical staff.

The £33m French centre-back had been due to start in a back three with Axel Disasi and Konstantinos Mavropanos, but Freddie Potts came in and Nuno Espirito Santo switched to a back four.

Villa won 2-0, John McGinn scoring before the break and Ollie Watkins after it. The result left West Ham 18th, four points behind 15th-placed Leeds, who drew 0-0 at home to Brentford on Saturday.

Should it prove a calf injury, Todibo would be a major doubt for Leeds’ FA Cup quarter-final at the London Stadium in two weeks.

Crysencio Summerville is also sidelined with a calf problem, having missed West Ham’s last two matches and a first Netherlands call-up, and he is a doubt to face his former club in under a fortnight.

“It is not good to go into the international break with this feeling. It is a moment to reflect and realise we have to do much better,” he told Sky Sports.

Espirito Santo’s side head into the international break before facing Leeds in the cup, then host Wolves in their next league game a week later.
