West Ham United and Rangers are both exploring a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil this summer, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Hammers are preparing for life in the Championship, while Rangers want to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title again next season.
New Rangers manager Derek McInnes wants quality signings this summer, and the ‘phenomenal‘ Neil fits the bill. However, West Ham and Hull City stand in his way.
The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town, making 16 Championship appearances to help them secure Premier League promotion.
It is unclear whether the Tractor Boys will also look to sign him.
West Ham want to fight for an immediate return to the Premier League next season following relegation.
Rangers are offering something different – a chance to win a league title and also play in Europe.
They will look to qualify for the league phase of next season’s Europa League after securing a place in the third qualifying round.
More suitors will join the race for Neil, and West Ham and Rangers will hope he will opt to choose their club ahead of others having initially tried sign him in January.
Hammers manager Nuno Espirito Santo is eyeing a squad rebuild as a majority of his players are expected to depart following relegation.
Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes is set to join Tottenham Hotspur following a verbal agreement between the two clubs.
