West Ham United announce Brynjarsdóttir’s departure | OneFootball

West Ham United have announced the news that midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has left the club following the expiry of her contract.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Hammers this morning.

The 33-year-old joined West Ham United from Icelandic club Selfoss in the January 2021 transfer window. Brynjarsdóttir has gone on to make 87 appearances for The Hammers in all competitions. The player has played an instrumental role for the club both on and off the pitch.

After her West Ham United exit was announced, Brynjarsdóttir said “The first word that comes to mind when I think of West Ham United is ‘family’. I brought my family here four-and-a-half years ago and ever since, everyone at the Club has been so supportive. When you get to know the people in the building – the staff, the players – we’re one big family and that feeling will stay with me forever.

“Wearing the famous claret and blue has been the greatest honour of my life and something, as a little girl growing up in Iceland supporting West Ham, is something I could only dream about doing.

“Now that this chapter has now come to a close, I can look back on the last four-and-a-half years with real pride. I think that the Club is in a better place now and I’m proud of the role that I’ve played in creating that environment.

“The memories that I have created both on and off the pitch will stay with me forever. This definitely isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon.”

Brynjarsdóttir is the seventh first team player to leave West Ham United this summer.
