West Ham United are still tracking former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy as they look to bolster their attacking ranks, according to the Sun.

West Ham started the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The result could force manager Graham Potter to move for another striker.

The Hammers have brought former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson to the London Stadium club this summer, but they could do with another number 9, and Vardy could be a perfect short-term solution.

The 38-year-old former England international has been a free agent since leaving the Foxes at the end of last season.

West Ham will face competition from Brentford, Wrexham and Celtic if they want him.

Napoli have also been credited with an interest after losing Romelu Lukaku to an injury.

The 2015-16 Premier League winner has been keeping himself fit with a personal trainer, and he is convinced that he can still compete at the highest level for one or two more seasons.

Vardy made 35 Premier League appearances last term, scoring nine goals and weighing in with four assists.

He notched 18 goals in 35 Championship games in 2023-24 and his Premier League experience could come in handy at West Ham.

They are keeping an eye on him but it remains to be seen whether they have plans to make a concrete move for him anytime soon.

Vardy could bring the goals the Hammers need to the table, but another free signing in attack may not be the solution in the long term.

They have been linked with Stade de Reims striker Adama Bojang, but they need more than another striker going by their performance against Sunderland.

West Ham need to bolster their options in the middle of the park, and they have been recently linked with Chelsea star Andrey Santos.

It is a position they have to strengthen in the coming days, and Potter has to act quickly as pressure could begin to mount if he fails to win against Chelsea or Nottingham Forest.
