West Ham United have made an offer to sign former Manchester United talent Angel Gomes.

Salford-born Gomes made his senior debut at United after impressing at youth level. However, the highly-rated Englishman struggled to cement his place in the first team, owing to concerns over his ability to handle the Premier League’s physicality.

United eventually released him in the summer of 2020, paving the way for Lille to sign him on a free transfer.

Now 24, Gomes has proven United’s decision wrong by establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s best deep-lying playmakers.

His passing range and ability to retain and recycle possession have made him a key figure at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

However, he is nearing the end of his time in France, as his contract at Lille expires this summer.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are among the clubs interested in signing the England international. Now, it has emerged that a Premier League opposition have made a move to lure Gomes.

According to The Guardian, West Ham have offered Gomes a deal worth £100,000 a week.

Graham Potter wants to strengthen his midfield and is understood to be a big fan of the ex-United midfielder.

At this stage, however, the Hammers are expected to face disappointment in their pursuit, as their proposal is not “high enough” and due to multiple other complications, sources are “not confident an agreement will be reached.”

Further, Barcelona are also thought to be interested in Gomes. The La Liga giants have signed several free agents in recent years due to their financial predicament.

Needless to say, the Blaugrana would be considered a more appealing destination if they decide to follow up their interest with an offer.
