West Ham United are actively trying to sign Celtic striker Daniel Cummings.

That is according to Sky Sports, which has reported that West Ham’s plan is to secure the services of Cummings as a free agent at the end of the season.

Cummings is out of contract at Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in the summer of 2025.

Premier League club West Ham are in talks with the 18-year-old striker.

The Hammers want to sign Cummings on a pre-contract agreement for a move to London Stadium in the summer.

The Scottish teenager had been in talks with Championship club Portsmouth, but it is now West Ham who are leading the race for his signature.

Cummings is a very good and promising young striker who is just 18 years of age.

The striker made his senior Celtic debut against Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.

But he is just a teenager now and is far from the finished article. It is likely to take Cummings four or five years to fully develop into a top striker.

While it is admirable that West Ham are looking at the long run, they need to focus on the here and now.

Michail Antonio is not going to play anytime soon, while fellow striker Niclas Fullkrug has had injury issues and is 31 years of age.

Things have not worked out for Danny Ings at the Hammers, and he is 32 now.

West Ham are 14th in the Premier League table at the moment with 27 points from 23 matches.

The London club are 10 points above the relegation zone and are 14 points off the final UEFA Champions League sport.

The Hammers will take on London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League next Monday evening.
