West Ham’s Niclas Füllkrug ponders return to the Bundesliga

Niclas Füllkrug’s agent has conceded that his client wishes to depart West Ham United this winter. The German national team striker may aim for a loan-out to the Bundesliga after 18 injury-plagued-months on the Isle. Plenty of German top flight outfits would surely be interested in taking the 32-year-old on via a low-risk loan deal.

Fülkrug was loosely linked with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt back in January, but such a move no longer makes sense after Eintracht acquired Füllkrug’s German national team colleague Jonathan Burkardt. A move that would make a great deal more sense involves a potential return of Füllkrug to his old club Werder Bremen

Bremen continue to contest that current Bundesliga campaign without a natural No. 9. Leverkusen loanee Victor Boniface recently managed to prioritize his fitness over his social media posts and has started the last two SVW matches. The Nigerian has nevertheless not yet scored a goal in the colors of his new club.

Füllkrug’s agent Thorsten Firth – speaking to the Tomorrow Business Podcast” – admitted that it was something of a shame that Füllkrug’s latest injury struggles have largely kept him out of action for his current Premier League club. A change-of-scenery still must be contemplated if Füllkrug is to maintain his place in the hierarchy of the German national team.

It’s a shame as he’s built for the Premier League,” Firth remarked on the pod. “He’s physically strong and is a classic penalty area striker. There’s just been negative momentum and bad luck. The transfer [to West Ham] didn’t work out. There’s no point in sugarcoating it.

How much more time are we going to give it?” Wirth continued. “Is it already time to react? I think it might make sense to make some changes.”

Sky Germany confirms that Füllkrug wants to work at a new station this winter; one at which he can more easily accrue playing time once fit.
