West Ham’s Premier League campaign ended with a 3-0 win over Leeds United on the final day, but it proved meaningless in the fight for survival, as the Hammers were relegated to the Championship. That grim reality has now set the stage for what could become a significant summer exit.
Losses of £104.2m were disclosed in West Ham’s most recent financial reports, and even before accounting for relegation, the club predicted a significant cash shortfall. According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), Roma are firmly in pursuit of Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, viewing him as the ideal wide attacker for Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.
Roma’s qualification for next season’s Champions League has strengthened their confidence considerably, while the presence of fellow Dutchman Donyell Malen at the club could further help their chances of landing Summerville. Summerville shares the same agents as Malen, which opens a clear pathway for Roma to negotiate directly through established relationships. Gasperini prizes one-versus-one ability above most other attacking qualities, and Summerville is a good option for him.
There is now a growing belief in Italy that Summerville could be available for around €35m, notably lower than the valuation West Ham previously demanded. His Transfermarkt value sat at €30m in May 2026, with reports suggesting a potential transfer fee between £25m and £35m contingent on the club’s relegation. Roma first tried to sign Summerville in January 2026, and their interest has not waned since. The 24-year-old registered seven goals and four assists across 33 appearances this season, combining devastating one-versus-one ability with consistent end-product.

The best decision for West Ham here is straightforward, and that is to sell Summerville, but sell him on their terms and refuse to go below €35m. Relegation weakens their hand, yes, but it does not erase the reality that this player has qualities several Premier League clubs are willing to pay a premium for.
Tottenham are reportedly interested, and Liverpool have been mentioned too, which gives the Hammers real hold. Accepting a Roma offer cheaply because of financial desperation would be a mistake they cannot afford. Holding firm, creating a genuine bidding situation, and extracting maximum value from their biggest asset is the only logical move for a club staring at a costly Championship rebuild.
