Westerlo have announced that Costa Rican international Josimar Alcocer has left the club. The 21-year-old has left the Belgian Pro League to join Sparta Prague after three seasons with Westerlo, with his last one being the best of his career. The fee looks to be around €3m, a nice profit for Westerlo on the €1m they spent to bring Alcocer to Belgium from Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense. The Costa Rican youngster has signed a deal with Sparta Prague which will run until 2030.
In Alcocer, Sparta Prague are getting a winger that has shown plenty of ability but not enough consistency during his time in Belgium. Last season was certainly the best of his time with Westerlo, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 36 games. A full Costa Rican international, the 21-year-old will provide Sparta Prague with a decent on ball threat who can beat his man and does look to score.
Since making his debut for Costa Rica as a teenager in 2023, Alcocer has played 34 games, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
