QPR took West Ham to extra time in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday
Charlie Austin has praised QPR’s performance against West Ham in the third round of the FA Cup despite a 2-1 loss in extra time.
Crysencio Summerville gave the Premier League side the lead in the 10th minute of first half stoppage time at the London Stadium.
But Richard Kone’s 65th minute equaliser ensured the game went the distance of extra time, yet the Championship side were unable to progress to the next stage of the competition.
West Ham’s January signing Val Castellanos scored in the first half of extra time to give the Hammers a 2-1 lead that earned them a place in the fourth round.
QPR were without key players like Rumarn Burrell, Kwame Poku and Jonathan Varane after they all suffered issues in their recent win over Sheffield Wednesday, but Julien Stéphan’s side were still a close match for their top flight opposition.

Austin has posted on social media to praise QPR for their performance on Sunday afternoon against Premier League side West Ham.
He expressed his pride at the display, complimenting his former club for taking top flight opposition all the way to extra time and for giving the fans something to celebrate with Kone’s equaliser.
“Went toe-to-toe at West Ham, defended the box, showed real heart.
“The limbs when we scored were unreal.
“That’s what the FA Cup’s about.”
QPR will not be in the draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup, which will take place on Monday evening.
Instead, the London outfit will be preparing for their upcoming league clash as they target a top six finish this season under Stéphan.
The Hoops are currently 11th in the Championship table, only three points adrift of a play-off place after 26 games played.
Next up for QPR is a trip to face Stoke City on 17 January in a 3pm kick-off at the Bet365 Stadium.

QPR were without so many key names, but they were still able to put on a strong performance against a team competing a division ahead of them.
It was an encouraging afternoon for Stéphan, and he should be pleased with how his players responded to going 1-0 down so deep into the first half.
While they ultimately were still knocked out of the competition, it’s a positive sign going forward for how the team can handle missing the likes of Burrell, Poku and Varane for the coming weeks.
Their goal now will be to back that performance up with a win away to a Stoke side seeking a third league win in a row this weekend.
