Chelsea insider Matt Law believes you can’t read too much into what Enzo Maresca is saying about the return of Cole Palmer.

Palmer has been limited to just four appearances this season by a groin injury which has caused him problems since the Club World Cup.

Maresca confirmed before the win against Nottingham Forest last month Palmer would be out for another six weeks.

If the time frame is correct and everything goes to plan Palmer is in line to return for big games against Barcelona and Arsenal at the end of the month.

It’s understood Palmer is yet to return to first team training, and Chelsea are thought to be thinking of the long term with his recovery.

Palmer is said to want to play in the Barcelona game, but whether he’s ready remains to be seen, and Law feels not too much can be read into Maresca’s comments about his return.

“I don’t think you can read too much into what Maresca is saying,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.

“The hope is he returns sometime after the international break, but I don’t know quite when that is.

“What I can say is he’s on his way back.”

Chelsea injury list shortening

Whilst the Blues are still waiting for the England international to return, the injury list at the club has got shorter with Benoit Badiashile now back in training.

Badiashile could be back in the match day squad for the trip to Burnley next weekend, whilst Liam Delap has also returned to action in recent weeks after a hamstring injury.

It now means Chelsea are without Palmer, Dario Essugo who’s expected back in January, and long term absentee Levi Colwill, who they hope could return before the end of the season.
