The right-back, who retired from Three Lions duty earlier this month, began his career with Sheffield United before moving to Tottenham in 2009, although the North Londoners initially loaned him back to the Blades.

Walker made his Spurs debut in 2010, but spent the 2010/11 season on loan with QPR and then Aston Villa in the Championship and Premier League, respectively.

The 35-year-old won six top-flight titles with Man City, who he joined in 2017, as well as the Champions League, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups, but he clearly has great respect for his brief time in West London earlier in his career.

QPR won the Championship title following a hugely successful 2010/11 campaign in which they won 88 points, finishing four clear of second-place Norwich City.

Walker played his part in those triumphant efforts, notching two assists in 20 second-tier appearances before returning to Spurs and subsequently being sent on loan to Premier League outfit Villa midway through the season.

Meanwhile, the former England international told Gary Neville about his time with QPR on The Overlap: "Fantastic. Brilliant. It was one of the best times of my career there.

"At QPR, going there and just experiencing winning football matches on a weekly basis, with Adel (Taarabt) basically doing what he wants and Neil Warnock.

"We're driving from East London to West London, probably about two hours in traffic, me and Radek Cerny, for Neil Warnock to say 'Nah, we'll have a day off today and drive back home'. But that was just him.

"That was just him, and he was class for it because he's one manager that I feel that knew how to have the team together, and I think it was important in that dressing room as well."

QPR fans will always share Walker's admiration of Taarabt, and the former Morocco international was the talisman for the R's in their 2010/11 Championship-winning campaign.

The tricky playmaker produced one of the greatest individual seasons in second-tier history when he notched 19 goals and 17 assists to spearhead the West London club to the title.

Warnock is also a popular figure at Loftus Road, having overseen two spells in charge of QPR.

Kyle Walker could play against Queens Park Rangers for either Burnley or Sheffield United next season

Walker has made it clear that he has fond memories of his time with the R's, but the Loftus Road faithful will not want to see the veteran earn a win against their side in the Championship next season.

However, that eventuality could come to fruition, as the right-back's current club, Burnley, are set to suffer relegation from the Premier League back to the second tier.

The Clarets will want to launch a serious promotion bid once again next term, and Walker's experience at the highest level of the game proves that he can help the Lancashire outfit do that.

Meanwhile, the former England man could also play against QPR for Sheffield United next season, having stated his wishes to return to South Yorkshire before hanging up his boots.

Walker told The Overlap: "I'd like to keep playing for another few years. It's always been a dream to play for Sheffield United again. To start there at six years old and then leaving at 19. I spent so many incredible years there.

"I hope to play for them again. I don't know when that will be. I don't know if they will want me."

The Blades currently enjoy the services of Femi Seriki, who is a talented Championship right-back, but there is no doubt that Walker's presence would bolster next season's promotion chances.
