Board member for sport Max Eberl has described Kompany many times as a “lucky find for FC Bayern”. He said the Belgian has “made fantastic progress with the team and the team. Success doesn’t come automatically, it’s hard work. He started that last season and is continuing it seamlessly. He’s played a very big part in our success. The togetherness, this energy, this desire to win – the coach has instilled that in the players. It’s looking very good. We want to keep riding this wave,” continued Eberl.

On the pitch, Kompany’s Bayern are characterised by a modern playing philosophy with extremely intense pressing, quick transitions and a clear possession structure. Following a successful first year with the Bundesliga title and the Supercup success, Kompany and his team have also made a flying start to the current campaign. The Bavarians have won all of their 11 competitive matches so far, equalling the record start in German professional football. In the Bundesliga, the defending champions already have 21 points on the board after seven matchdays and a goal difference of +32, which represents the best record at this stage in the history of the league. Kompany’s side are also top of the Champions League table after two rounds of matches.
