Manchester United begin 2026 with what’s set to be a close encounter with Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The Gunners are third in the table with United one point behind in fourth.
And the two teams will meet at the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime.
United head coach Marc Skinner spoke to the media on Thursday – and said that the game would be won by the team who coped best with the big occasion.
“It’s always who can take the big moments,” he said, reminiscing about previous matches between the two teams.
He added: “We’re going to maximise what we can. We’ve got to play our game effectively as what we’re really good at, but also understand that they can create magic moments and so can we.
“So it’s always one of them as a neutral, it’s exciting to watch, but I think we have to go into the game, focus, give absolutely everything and with the quality we have, we can create chances to win the game with, no doubt about that.”
Skinner is set to lead his side out for the 100th time in the WSL – a longevity that he describes as a privilege and an honour.
But he also said: “I’m not done yet!”
He went on: “If you’d have said to me, would I have been manager of Man United for four and a half [years], fifth season – you never know you’re going to get that long in football, right? We live in a different world now.
“I think it’s an honour for me and obviously my family to lead a fantastic group of fans and a fantastic club.
“But I’m not done yet: I’ve got much more I want to achieve. So it only makes it stronger in my will to win and I want to lead this club into even creating more history.”
Confirming that both Lea Schuller and Elisabeth Terland are in contention to start against Arsenal, he also suggested they could both be included in the same team.
And Skinner also confirmed the reports that Terland, Ella Toone, Lisa Naalsund and Gabby George had had their contracts extended until next summer.
