Martí Cifuentes is under growing pressure at Leicester City

Martí Cifuentes’ position at Leicester City is safe for the time being, but that will change if the team suffers more defeats.

According to Football Insider, the Spaniard could be dismissed if results nosedive following the 3-0 loss to Southampton midweek.

The 43-year-old was appointed in the summer following his exit from QPR, and it was expected that he would have the team challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

However, the loss at St. Mary’s on Tuesday night has left the team sitting in the bottom half of the Championship table.

Pressure is mounting on Cifuentes, with supporters growing frustrated with their inconsistent results so far this season.

It is believed that another couple of losses could be enough for Leicester to make a change in the dugout as pressure grows on Cifuentes.

It’s been claimed that recent wins over both Norwich City and Stoke City eased some of the pressure on the Foxes’ manager.

However, the latest defeat to Southampton has raised some fresh concerns, although no decision is expected imminently.

Journalist Pete O'Rouke has claimed that Leicester could be forced into a decision if more defeats akin to the loss midweek occur in the coming weeks, especially with growing frustration from supporters about their inconsistent form, but Cifuentes is likely to be given some time to show he can improve results.

He also cited the team's standing in the table as being well below pre-season expectations, which will also put pressure on the manager's position.

"Obviously, more defeats for Cifuentes will increase the pressure on him," said O'Rourke, via Football Insider.

"Nobody expected this, Leicester sitting 15th at this stage of the season.

"I’m sure Cifuentes didn’t, and the fans didn’t either.

"If they suffer more big defeats like the one against Southampton, obviously then the club might have to make a decision on his long-term future."

The Championship side’s financial position is also a growing concern, with the possibility of a points deduction now hanging over their head.

It was reported earlier this month that the 15th place side are set for a hearing with the Premier League regarding potential breaches of their profit and sustainability rules.

Next up for Cifuentes’ side is a home clash against Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon in a 3pm kick-off.

Martí Cifuentes is at risk of losing Leicester fans

Cifuentes may have a slight reprieve from being sacked at the moment, but he is in serious danger of losing the fans regardless.

The 3-0 loss to Southampton was an embarrassing result, and dropping into the bottom half of the table is well below pre-season expectations.

Issues behind the scenes haven’t helped the Spaniard, but this squad should still be competing nearer the top of the standings.

It is still tight between them and the play-offs, with just three points separating them from sixth, so a good run of form in December could still turn around their season, but a couple more defeats and Leicester could also easily be cut adrift.
