Interim head coach Rick Passmoor expressed his pride in his Leicester City players as they came from a goal down against Everton to secure a draw.

Noemie Mouchon scored a late equaliser to cancel out Ornella Vignola’s opener at the King Power Stadium.

And Passmoor – who took over in the hot seat shortly before the start of the Women’s Super League season – was delighted with what he saw from his team.

“I’m really proud of the players to come from behind and get a point and change the momentum,” Passmoor explained. “Everton are a good team with good players and they did well with possession.

“The players’ attitude was great, fighting to win the ball back and if the game had gone on another five or 10 minutes, you probably would’ve fancied our chances.

“Today we can still reflect on our learning and our growth because there are times we did well and others that we need to do better in, but there has to be massive credit to the players and the whole squad.

“They all put a shift in which is the minimum you do for Leicester City, and I’m really pleased for them.”

Rick Passmoor: The momentum shifted

And Passmoor revealed what he said to his players at half-time to encourage them to attack more effectively.

“I asked them if we could get into the final third a bit quicker,” Passmoor continued. “Can you play to the forward line, and could they help us getting control, because in the first half we were a little bit static.

“But in the second half the momentum shifted, and we had sustained pressure on their defence. The players deserve it because they have a great attitude and long may that continue.”

Leicester City’s season so far

The Foxes are currently tenth in the WSL, with four points to their credit. They beat Liverpool last month, winning 1-0 despite Shannon O’Brien’s dismissal reducing them to ten players.

However, they have also lost to Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

But Passmoor said before the weekend’s match that he was sure his team were “heading in the right direction”, adding: “We’re looking at the process; it’s been a pleasure to work with this team and group of players so far and in the long-term, the results will speak for themselves.”

Leicester City’s next game is on Sunday, 12th October, when they face Aston Villa.
