What the referee told Real Madrid boss Arbeloa after Valverde red card vs Atlético | OneFootball

Referee José Luis Munuera was overheard providing an explanation for his decision to send Federico Valverde off during tonight’s Madrid Derby in La Liga.

This comes after the official sparked the fury of all associated with Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are of course fresh off a hard-fought victory over city rivals Atlético, thanking a Vinícius Jr. brace alongside a Fede Valverde strike for a 3-2 triumph.

En route to as much, however, the evening’s hosts were also dealt a blow on the personnel front.

During the 2nd-half, with the clash hanging in the balance, goalscorer Valverde was responsible for a foul on Álex Baena.

Whilst the widespread expectation was that a yellow card would quickly follow, instead, the Uruguayan was shown a straight red, leaving all of a Real Madrid persuasion in a state of shock.

Álvaro Arbeloa was one such individual, culminating in José Luis Munuera making his way to the sideline to calm the Blancos headmaster down.

And upon his arrival, the official was overheard providing the following explanation for his decision:

“He does not go for the ball, only player.”
