Clock is ticking down on the winter window
Premier League clubs are gearing up for a frantic end to the January transfer window today.
A relatively quiet window has still produced plenty of headline signings, and now bigger than Antoine Semenyo's £62million move to Manchester City. Tottenham spent £35million to bring Conor Gallagher back to London after a spell with Atletico Madrid, and Brennan Johnson moved across the capital to Crystal Palace for a similar fee.
There is still plenty in the balance, most notably the future of Jean-Phillipe Mateta, keen to leave Crystal Palace, still be to decided in the final hours of the window. Tottenham are also said to be searching the market for a new wide forward.
Chelsea are still working on a new defender signing, with Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet their key target but as yet are unwilling to match his £65million asking price. Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has not ruled out a late delve into the market, and Liverpool could be forced to a purchase after Jeremie Frimpong's injury.
As the clock ticks down, will there be time to get deals over the line?
The 2026 January transfer window shuts today, Monday, February 2, at 7pm GMT for Premier League clubs.
The later-than-usual deadline to due to the final day of January falling across a weekend.
The exact time of the window closing has been brought forward from the usual 11pm deadline. The new, earlier time has been in place for a few years now, and it was to bring it in line with other windows across Europe.
There remain a few outliers though. Teams in Scotland will have until 11pm tonight to conclude their business, while Portugal’s transfer window closes on February 3, while clubs in Greece, Turkey, and Austria have until February 6 to conclude any deal.
The Major League Soccer transfer window stays open until March 27 as they are in their off-season.
