Grêmio have begun clearing outstanding payments to the squad and say all arrears should be settled between this Friday and next week. The club has not confirmed whether the debts cover only June or also May.
According to Globo.com, the process took longer than expected due to an issue linked to the sale of Viery. A delay in the defender’s Italian work visa held up receipt of Fiorentina’s initial instalments.
Club officials say the matter with the players has now been addressed, with a pledge to complete overdue salaries and image rights in the coming days as funds from the Viery deal arrive.
Seeking to avoid recurring strain on payroll, Grêmio have adjusted their recruitment approach. Midfielder Arthur did not renew after requesting R$ one million above the club’s offer.
Recent business has prioritised lower fees and wages, including centre-back Wallace and forward Matheus Nascimento. Attacker Jovane Cabral, yet to be announced, follows the same cost-conscious profile.
