There will be no repeat of the 2024 Euros final
The Three Lions were within five minutes of reaching a first World Cup final since 1966 after Anthony Gordon’s goal but were stung late on by Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez.
La Roja became the first team to book their place in this weekend’s tournament showpiece with a 2-0 win over France in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday night.
Spain, the Euro 2024 winners, had to wait 24 hours to discover their opponents in the World Cup final and it will be a clash with the reigning champions after Argentina came from behind to beat the Three Lions.
As such, Argentina will seek to become only the third nation ever to win back-to-back World Cups, following the Italy team of 1934 and 1938, and the great Brazil outfit of 1958 and 1962.
The game is due to kick off at 10pm BST in the UK.
The 2026 World Cup bronze medal match will be held at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Due to FIFA’s rules around sponsorship, the venue is known as the Miami Stadium throughout this tournament.
The ground has a capacity of 75,000 - reduced to 64,478 during the World Cup - and is the home of the Miami Dolphins.
It has hosted six World Cup matches so far, including England’s extra-time win over Norway that sealed a place in the semi-finals.

It was also the scene of Cape Verde’s 2-2 draw against Uruguay in the group stage and, arguably, the game of the tournament so far between them and Argentina in the round of 32.
Other notable games at the Hard Rock included Brazil’s 3-0 win over Scotland.
No, that is being saved for the World Cup final and the USA are taking a Super Bowl-type approach to the showpiece, with a number of prominent musical stars set to take the stage for a special half-time show that is expected to last for 11 minutes in total.
Justin Bieber was recently confirmed to be joining Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay in performing.
Coldplay singer Chris Martin has put together the half-time show, which will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
