When does the summer transfer window open and close?

The time for wheeling and dealing is fast approaching

As the eyes of football fans around the globe are drawn towards North America for the World Cup, a new distraction will arise back home in Europe as the summer transfer window opens for business.

It remains to be seen how busy the transfer window will be in its earliest days, as players competing at the tournament may well prefer to focus on their international commitments before clarifying club futures, but plenty of storylines are already bubbling away.

Arsenal are pushing to sign Aston Villa and England forward Morgan Rogers, while West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes is known to be of interest to a wide number of suitors. The Irons have slapped an £80m price tag on his head.

Elliot Anderson seems likely to leave Nottingham Forest in what could turn out to be a record sale for the Premier League, with Manchester City quoted in excess of £100m for his services.

Also on the market, but uninvolved at the World Cup, is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, who is reportedly keen to play Champions League football next season.

When does the transfer window open and close?

The 2026 summer transfer window will open for business on Monday, June 15.

It will then close on Tuesday, September 1, at 11pm BST, giving clubs a total of 78 days to get their squads ready for the new season.

Should any potential transfers go right down to the wire, though, clubs can submit a ‘deal sheet’, a form which if completed in time, can give clubs a few extra hours to exchange documents and get their purchases over the line.
