Thomas Tuchel will name the 26 players head across the pond very soon

England fans will not have to wait much longer to learn which players head coach Thomas Tuchel has picked for the World Cup.

The Three Lions will be among the favourites to win a second World Cup when they head to this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Each of the 48 competing teams can name a squad of 26 players for the competition, and Tuchel will be making his final few tight calls as the 2025-26 season draws to a close in the coming weeks.

And it has now been revealed when the final squad for the tournament will be announced.

When will England announce 2026 World Cup squad?

The FA have confirmed that Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the World Cup will be officially announced on Friday, May 22.

The England head coach will be at Wembley Stadium on the day to speak to the media and explain his selection calls.

This summer’s World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, with England the top seeds in Group L, where they will begin their campaign against Croatia on June 17.

England then face Ghana on June 23 before completing the group stage against Panama on June 27.

Tuchel’s side will then proceed to the knockout stages if they qualify from the group.

May 22 will be the first time Tuchel has named an England squad for a major tournament.

His team reached the tournament by finishing top of qualifying Group K, winning every game without conceding a single goal.

It is expected that Tuchel will select three goalkeepers in his official squad but bring a fourth to the tournament to act as a training shot-stopper assisting the other three.
