The 2026-27 season is almost upon us, with both the Premier League and Championship having a more different look to them rather than the same teams going up and down.

Just one of the three promoted sides have dropped back to the second tier at the first time of asking, with Burnley's stay lasting just one year once more, whilst both Leeds United and Sunderland left the Clarets behind by comfortably steering clear of the drop zone.

Instead, Wolves and West Ham felt the pain of relegation after long-term stints in the top flight, and as well as Ipswich Town replacing those three clubs after just a year away, both Coventry City and Hull will be playing Premier League football for the first time in a while - in the Sky Blues' case it's been 25 years.

But where would all 20 clubs from this season's Premier League finish in the Championship if they replaced one of the 24 teams for 2026-27? We got AI to make their predictions...

Arsenal - 1st

Perhaps quite obviously, current Premier League champions Arsenal would also win the Championship at a canter.

You have to ponder just how many goals they'd concede with their current team, especially given the strength of their defence, and even their second string with the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Christian Norgaard and Gabriel Jesus would just be far too good.

Aston Villa - 1st

Many top flight clubs would win the Championship, and Aston Villa are another that are predicted to run away with the league.

Some of Villa's biggest stars have played Championship football such as Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn, who experienced the second tier with the Midlands outfit, with AI saying that 'Emery's tactical organisation would make them dominant over 46 games'.

Perhaps a few of Villa's kids on the periphery of the first-team - like Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba and Ben Broggio - aren't ready yet for regular second tier football, but the likes of Lamare Bogarde, Kosta Nedeljkovic and Samuel Iling-Junior would be very good at the level with consistent game-time.

Bournemouth - 1st

It wasn't that long ago where Bournemouth were struggling to survive as a football club in League Two, but very quickly their fortunes turned around, and now the Cherries are an established Premier League club.

Andoni Iraola may have left for pastures new at Liverpool, but Marco Rose is stepping into the job of a club whose squad building has been second to none in recent years - so much so that Brazilian wonderkids like Rayan have arrived at the Dorset outfit.

And with how their team currently looks, Bournemouth are another club that are predicted to win the Championship quite 'comfortably'.

Brentford - 1st

Historically a lower league EFL club, sans a small handful of top flight years either side of World War 2, Brentford's Premier League debut in 2021 has seen them barely be threatened by relegation since, having only finished 16th in the standings at their lowest in their five years in the top flight.

Under Matthew Benham's ownership, the Bees' transfer strategy has been smart, with AI noting that their 'recruitment model and tactical flexibility would be a huge advantage' in the Championship as they'd win the title.

Brighton - 1st

The aforementioned Brentford have somewhat followed a similar trajectory to Brighton, who are more established in the Premier League since the year 2017.

Owner Tony Bloom has been a big plus point for the Seagulls, who have sensational facilities at the AMEX Stadium, with a recruitment strategy to boot thanks to Bloom's analytical background.

'Superior coaching and player quality' would make Brighton 'title favourites' in the Championship, and it's hard to disagree with that.

Chelsea - 1st

Even though Chelsea underperformed significantly on expectations in 2025-26 following their FIFA Club World Cup win, you would expect them to walk the Championship - even with 50 per cent effort.

There's plenty of world class talent on display at Stamford Bridge, and even the untested young players like Dario Essugo, Aaron Anselmino and Geovany Quenda would likely take the division by storm too, and with how deep their squad is, rotation wouldn't be an issue either.

Coventry City - 4th

This is where it gets somewhat controversial, but despite winning the Championship title earlier this year, Coventry City are predicted by AI to only finish fourth in the standings if they were to take part in this year's league.

Frank Lampard's side romped to the title with 95 points, and whilst they've not yet done much strengthening to their squad ahead of a much-anticipated return to the Premier League, you'd still perhaps expect it on paper to be in the second tier title mix.

AI disagrees though, presumably putting the three relegated clubs ahead of the Sky Blues in the pecking order, although Cov fans would vehemently disagree with that notion, you'd presume.

Crystal Palace - 1st

Crystal Palace are ushering in a new era under Pierre Sage, and with the likes of Maxence Lacroicx, Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr, the Eagles remain a valuable club with plenty of assets.

Due to the fact that their squad is 'athletic, well-balanced and packed with Premier League-quality players', Palace would likely win the Championship - perhaps not at a canter like one of the top teams would, but they would have more than enough to keep the challengers at bay.

Everton - 2nd

You'd perhaps expect Everton to be another club with '1st' next to their name, but for whatever reason, it's not to be.

The Toffees finished 13th in the Premier League last season, which was perhaps lower than expected for their first season in the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and especially given some of the talented individuals David Moyes had to select from.

Ai believe that Everton 'might not be the most entertaining, but they'd grind out enough wins for automatic promotion' - they just wouldn't finish as Champions.

Fulham - 2nd

Another club tipped by AI to be runners-up in the Championship are none other than Fulham, who said goodbye to manager Marco Silva and have welcomed ex-Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa as their new boss.

The Spaniard takes over a Cottagers side that have been back in the Premier League for four years, and have finished mid-table in all four seasons, which shows remarkable consistency - yet AI doesn't think they'd win the Championship.

Perhaps they see West Ham or Wolves as a stronger unit right now, especially after Silva's exit and the likes of Harry Wilson have left Craven Cottage, but it would be a surprise if the current Fulham squad still didn't win the second tier title.
