FLW has asked AI to take a look at where the East Midlands' three largest clubs rank compared to other sides in the country.

The East Midlands is the home of two European Championship victories, four top flight titles and 11 major domestic trophies. All of these have been won by the region's three biggest clubs, and there is plenty of tribalism between supporters.

Derby County and Leicester City are both currently in the Championship, but they are fighting at opposite ends of the league table right now. The Rams are looking to secure a play-off place and their return to the Premier League for the first time in 18 years. Meanwhile, the Foxes are battling for survival after a six-point deduction.

Nottingham Forest are enjoying their greatest spell of the 21st century, and they are now in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League. Yet, in the Premier League, the Reds are towards the bottom of the table, and they may well join their rivals in the second tier next season.

Nevertheless, there has long been debates about which of the trio is the biggest, and while that has fluctuated over the years, Football League World has asked AI chatbot, ChatGPT, where it thinks the clubs fit in compared to other sides in the country.

In recent years, the Foxes have made a name for themselves. Their Premier League title victory in 2015/16 saw the club elevate themselves to unprecedented levels, and they won the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 2021.

However, when asked by FLW which club is the biggest out of the three, ChatGPT said that Nottingham Forest takes that crown. The chatbot explained that due to their European Cup victories, the Reds are the largest club in the East Midlands.

Leicester and Derby are relatively close in second and third, but it is the recent history of the Foxes that sees them take the middle spot, while the Rams' lack of success over the last few decades means that ChatGPT believes they are the smallest out of the three.

Nevertheless, when ranked compared to the rest of the UK, Forest are propped relatively high up the list in 12th. Leicester sit 18th compared to other teams based in the United Kingdom, with Derby on their heels in 20th. John Eustace's side have been described as a 'sleeping giant' and they look likely to return to the Premier League in the coming years.

The last time all three East Midlands clubs were in the same division was in 2013/14

It's been well over a decade since all three sides were last competing against one another, as the Championship played host to three different versions of the East Midlands derby in 2013/14.

It was Leicester who came out on top that year, winning the league title and securing their place in the Premier League for 2014/15. It looked as though Derby were going to join them in the top flight, with the Rams making into the play-off final. However, they were beaten 1-0 by QPR at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest finished 11th, and were beaten 5-0 by the Rams at Pride Park in March 2014, while they were beaten 2-0 and drew 2-2 against the Foxes in their two clashes.

Nevertheless, there is a chance that all three meet once again in the Championship next season, and supporters of Derby and Leicester will be itching to welcome the Reds back to the second tier.
