AS Roma looks like one of the most promising Serie A clubs out there and Gian Piero Gasperini is one of the main reasons for that. He is one of the most distinctive names in Italian football and has been around for many years. Gasperini took over in 2025 after signing a three-year deal and spent nine years at Atalanta.
Shortly after his arrival, AS Roma has shown signs of improvement. The team performed well in the domestic competition and ended up third in Serie A in the 2025/26 season with 73 points. This means that we will see the club in the Champions League qualification.
But who is Gian Piero Gasperini, and what do we need to know about him? Well, let’s reveal some of the more interesting information.
Gian Piero Gasperini was born in Grugliasco in 1958 and began his football life as a player. He actually moved into the coaching position in the early 2000s and gained experience with the likes of Genoa and Crotone. He also spent time with Inter Milan and Palermo before moving to Atalanta, where he made a name for himself.
To be fair, he first became popular in Genoa because he built a well-organized team willing to press opponents. This was a completely new approach that many people disagreed with, but it was actually worth it. Genoa became much more successful and this allowed the manager to become more popular. This eventually allowed him to join Atalanta.
There is absolutely no arguing that Gian Piero Gasperini’s legacy at Atalanta is secure. When he first took the team in 2016, the squad had all kinds of issues and lacked consistent results. Bettors rarely read about them when searching for the best Serie A predictions and rarely consider them when wagering overall. However, things slowly started to change once Gasperini arrived.
Over the last 9 years, he transformed Atalanata into one of Serie A’s best and most respected teams. The team managed to qualify for numerous European competitions and even reached the Champions League several times.
With that said, everyone will remember the manager for his key role in the club’s first big European success in years. Atalanta reached the Europa League final in 2024 and secured a clean 3-0 victory against Bayern Leverkusen. This was a historical triumph as it marked the club’s first European trophy. Coincidentally, it was also the first major trophy in Gian Piero Gasperini’s career as a coach.
Atalanta’s success was not built around a single star or short-term spending spree. Instead, it proved that hard work and the right approach pay off. Considering this success, it’s no surprise that AS Roma decided it’s high time to bring him on board.
As soon as Gasperini arrived in Rome, it became clear that he would do everything possible to transform the clubs. Well, the first season has given Roma belief because he has helped the team reach the top 3 in the Serie A.
What many do not understand is that Roma is a club with enormous support, and people expect it to perform well. It seems like Gasperini understands the pressure because he has said numerous times he’ll do whatever it takes to turn the energy around the club into a strength rather than a burden.
A manager of his caliber brings authority, experience and a clear footballing identity. There are definitely challenges because Roma will have to go up against some of the best in the Champions League, but the team has what it takes. Gasperini has proven he has what it takes to lead a team to victory.
Now that Gian Piero Gasperini’s first season is over, Roma’s objective is clear – remain in the Champions League and compete against the best. This transfer season will be very interesting, as we expect Roma to complete several notable deals. Fans can’t wait to see what happens once the FIFA World Cup 2026 is over because Roma is in an excellent position to be very successful.
