The American is keen on multiple clubs at present.

John Textor is reportedly interested in being involved within Derby County's ownership circle amid talk of a potential takeover at Championship rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

That is according to a fresh report from Alan Nixon via Patreon on Sunday morning, which outlines the latest steps the American is said to be taking when it comes to, once again, being involved in English football in some capacity.

Textor was most recently a stakeholder at Premier League side and current FA Cup holders, Crystal Palace, but left his position at Selhurst Park in the summer after being at the forefront of controversial developments which saw the Eagles demoted from the UEFA Europa League into the UEFA Europa Conference League due to an alleged breaching of the organisation's 'multi-club ownership' regulations.

He has since been the subject of mass takeover discourse in the early weeks of the current campaign, none more so than at Hillsborough, with Wednesday's ownership situation becoming well-documented ever since the latter stages of last season, when rumblings of major discontent under Dejphon Chansiri first came to the fore.

The South Yorkshire side are now within the second week of being under the control of administrators, Begbies Traynor, following Chansiri's decision to place the club into said measures after talk of a potential winding-up order from HMRC due to a previously unpaid tax bill.

Since then, though, at least 10 parties are said to be interested in acquiring full control of the club, with Textor one of the more high-profile names on this particular front.

However, it's fair to say that Wednesday aren't his only option at present, with such developments further echoed by Nixon's aforementioned report.

Textor's interest in acquiring minority or majority control of an English side is nothing new, having previously been interested in taking over Everton prior to his involvement in Crystal Palace, which ended in controversial circumstances due to owning stakes in Ligue 1 side, Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League this season.

The 60-year-old, alongside ex-Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley, have been heavily linked with a takeover of the Owls in recent weeks, with it being revealed that the American has held talks with the administrators over the potential for a deal to be done as soon as possible.

It has since been claimed that the administrators hope to see £50m - at least - when it comes to a proof of funds, with three parties reportedly able to showcase said figures.

Whilst Textor's potential involvement in Wednesday continues to rumble on, the latest club he has put feelers out for is Derby, with chairman and lifelong supporter, David Clowes, on the hunt for external investment to aid the Rams' short and long-term growth.

Indeed, Clowes found the East Midlands side in the exact same situation as what Wednesday currently find themselves in, back in the summer of 2022, where he completed a £33m takeover to take his boyhood club out of administration.

However, a key detail within Nixon's report may put those in the Steel City slightly more at ease, with it being claimed that the Owls are still Textor's first-choice when it comes to a deal, with Derby second-place on this particular front.

Derby County developments make John Textor, Sheffield Wednesday talk even more intriguing

It cannot be disputed that both Derby and Sheffield Wednesday are two of the biggest and most historic clubs currently in the Championship, leaving Textor in an intriguing position.

However, whilst supporters at Pride Park would welcome extra funds to help their club's progress, they will know more than most, just how important it is for a figure such as Textor to take majority control in S6 ahead of a much-needed reset.

The Owls picked up their first point since entering administration through a goalless draw at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday lunchtime, but are still miles adrift of safety due to the automatic 12-point deduction imposed on the club by the EFL on October 24th.

However, the atmosphere at the club is as positive as it's ever been in recent years now Chansiri is out of the limelight, meaning that next season, which will most likely be in League One, is the first of many in what Wednesdayites will hope is an eventual route back to the Premier League.
