Achraf Hakimi has been left off the 11-man shortlist for the 2026 Marc-Vivien Foé award, which recognises the best African player in Ligue 1, because he has been sent to stand trial for rape.

L'Équipe notes the PSG right-back, 27, was not considered as the selection criteria require exemplary conduct on and off the pitch.

The Morocco international was in February ordered to stand trial for the rape of a young woman in February 2023.

The prize honours former Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foé, who died of cardiac arrest during a match at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France.

The 11 finalists are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Marseille, Lamine Camara of Senegal and Monaco, Bamba Dieng of Senegal and Lorient, Guéla Doué of Côte d'Ivoire and Strasbourg, and Martial Godo of Côte d'Ivoire and Strasbourg.

Also shortlisted are Ilan Kebbal of Algeria and Paris FC, Hervé Koffi of Burkina Faso and Angers, Arsène Kouassi of Burkina Faso and Lorient, Aïssa Mandi of Algeria and Lille, Moussa Niakhaté of Senegal and Lyon, and Mamadou Sangaré of Mali and Lens.
