Many wondered why the ambulance didn’t enter the pitch for first aid on Edoardo Bove after the Fiorentina midfielder collapsed on Sunday, but it’s a measure under Italian law to avoid the vehicle getting bogged down while rushing to the hospital.

Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is undergoing diagnostic tests at the Careggi hospital in Florence, where he was rushed on Sunday after collapsing suddenly on the pitch during a Serie A match between the Tuscans and Inter.

Doctors immediately arrived on the pitch to give the Italian midfielder first aid, bringing all the necessary life-saving appliances, including a defibrillator.

Some Inter and Fiorentina players, visibly shocked, urged the ambulance to enter the pitch to help further the player lying down.

However, as explained by Fanpage, the vehicle was not allowed to enter the pitch as, by doing so, it could risk getting bogged down and waste time on the way to the hospital.

Doctors who treated Bove on the pitch still had all the appliances needed in such situations. After a few seconds, which seemed endless, they stretchered the player into the ambulance and rushed him to Careggi Hospital.

Fiorentina said on Monday that Bove was ‘awake, alert and oriented’ after an ‘uneventful’ first night at the hospital.
