Andree Jeglertz

Andree Jeglertz admitted he was speechless after his Manchester City side thrashed defending champions Chelsea 5-1 at the Etihad in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

A Kerolin hat-trick plus goals from Bunny Shaw and Vivianne Miedema did the damage.

It takes them 11 points clear of second-placed Manchester United in the table.

And Jeglertz was amazed at how his players put on such a stellar performance and shrugged off any weight of expectation.

“When you are winning a game, no matter what, it is special of course,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s an empty feeling. It’s almost like ‘Okay, so it seems like you’re not happy’. Of course you are extremely happy.

“In the circle afterwards it’s the first time I said to the players, ‘I don’t know what to say’ because I’m proud of the performance, What they’re able to do and also of course I am pleased, but also having a look at the players enjoying the game, smiling and really feeling no matter what, there is this feeling that playing at home, a lot of people expecting us to perform, and they managed it.

“They’re just doing this kind of game with all that, it’s amazing.”

Andree Jeglertz: Manchester City will want to be even better against Arsenal

City’s next match is against newly-crowned FIFA Women’s Champions Cup winners Arsenal as they travel to the Emirates on Sunday.

“There’ll be a lot of things [we take into Arsenal] but if I know the players well, when we meet again on Tuesday, there will be things they say they want to be better in.

“I’m not worried about that, there’ll be something to improve on but we’ll come back to this about being able to handle different phases of the game.

“It was similar to the [Manchester] United game, we scored at the right moment but then we were also very good in the second half at keeping them away from our goal and creating scoring chances in transitions.

“That’ll definitely be one thing to highlight for the team.”
