Much of the talk around Liverpool Relieving Slot of his duties centres around the Reds’ achievements this season, and focusses on where the team finishes in the Premier League and what they do in the Champions League.
There has been less talk about the head coach’s relationship with his players and the supporters, but a report from Football Insider has now claimed that Slot’s job security won’t be solely achievement based.
“Fenway Sports Group have accepted that they may have to sack manager Arne Slot this summer amid a “disconnect” with the fans,” the report states.
The hierarchy at Liverpool are fearful of a ‘toxic’ atmosphere forming among the support, and are willing to sack Slot at the end of the season if they feel there is no way for him to win the fanbase back.
Obviously, a marked improvement on the pitch and greatly improved performances against PSG would go a long way towards mending the rift between the head coach and supporters, but there is a great deal of work that needs to be done in very little time.
Supporters will need Slot to show that he has what it takes to return Liverpool to the top of the pile next season and, if the head coach can’t do that, then it may be time for FSG to move on.
