La Liga champions Barcelona could soon come in for a significant financial boost on the part of world football’s governing body, FIFA.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards as much as being on the cards owing to an injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen.

Goalkeeper Ter Stegen has for his part been forced to sit out the first week of pre-season training with Barcelona’s squad.

This comes owing to a niggling back injury, suffered whilst on international duty with Germany last month.

The 33-year-old is giving serious consideration to going under the knife to solve the problem, a move which would see him ruled out long-term.

And in the case of as much, Barcelona would be entitled to a payout on the part of FIFA.

As per a report from MD:

‘The world’s governing body has been informed by Barça from the outset of these back problems caused by his recent matches with the German national team, so it could have to assume a part of the fee if he is “out for more than 28 consecutive days, as a result of bodily injuries caused by an accident during the operational time of the matches.”

In the case of Ter Stegen being sidelined for an expected spell of four months, Barcelona would in turn be entitled to a sum in the region of €2.5 million.
