Botafogo will not play on Wednesday 29 July. Their Brasileiro match against Grêmio has been postponed with no new date set, leaving them with one fewer fixture played.

According to Globo.com, the change stems from Grêmio’s commitments rather than Botafogo’s. Without direct qualification for the Copa Sudamericana last 16, the team entered the play-offs after finishing second in Group F with 11 points, two behind Montevideo City Torque.

Grêmio lost the first leg 3-2 to Bolívar. The return is scheduled for 19:00 on Thursday 30 July. Had the Botafogo game gone ahead on Wednesday 29, Grêmio would have had no rest, so the CBF adjusted the league calendar.

The switch hands Botafogo a useful breather. Fresh from a 1-0 win over Cruzeiro last Sunday, the players have four days off and report back on Friday.

Coach Franclim Carvalho will prioritise integrating six recent signings. Centre-forward Danilo Pereira, the last to arrive in Brazil, has been registered in the BID and will be available next round. The Portuguese coach also plans to step up work for greater defensive balance.

Botafogo’s next outing is on 8 August against Fluminense, the 22nd round of the Brasileiro, at 19:30 Brasília time at Nilton Santos.
