Manchester United and Chelsea renew their rivalry this weekend, as the two sides clash in a Premier League matchday 33 fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Both teams having lost last weekend and being keen to finish the campaign on a high and secure Champions League spots, this fixture could have a huge say in how their seasons conclude.

When the two sides last met, United, though aided by Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez picking up a red card, rose to the occasion. Chelsea left Old Trafford on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat.

Going into this game, Chelsea will be looking to avenge that loss, so the Red Devils will have to bring their A-game despite heading to Stamford Bridge shorthanded, with all three of their experienced centre-backs; Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt, set to be unavailable.

But even without the trio, and potentially Kobbie Mainoo, United should still have enough to come away from Stamford Bridge with a result.

Rosenior has been impressed by Carrick

Notably, while highlighting what a great tactician United’s caretaker head coach, Michael Carrick, is, Chelsea boss Rosenior could not help but confess that this is going to be a tough game.

Rosenior said in his press conference, as per Football London:

“Well, Michael, firstly, as a player, I greatly admire him. Secondly, as a coach, I know he’s an amazing coach because he did a fantastic job with Middlesbrough for a period of time where they were pushing consistently at the top end of the Championship.

“I’m not surprised in terms of the points return that he’s got there because he’s a very, very good coach and a good guy. But we know we have to play our best to win a difficult game on Saturday.”

It will be interesting to see how the tactical battle between the two managers pans out.

Carrick backed for permanent role

But as we wait for the fireworks at Stamford Bridge, the question remains: will Rosenior’s indirect endorsement of Carrick as the next permanent United boss be ignored?

At a time when doubts are starting to creep in over Carrick’s suitability for the role, the Blues gaffer has clearly handed INEOS further reasons why letting Carrick go would see them miss out on a very, very good coach.
