Since Vincent Kompany arrived in July 2024, the German champions have often begun training to a soundtrack as they prepare to face PSG in the Champions League.
According to L'Équipe, Kompany once brought an ice-cream van to an open Anderlecht session during a 2019 heatwave, a small gesture that captures his preference for upbeat, welcoming settings.
In Munich he has opened some sessions to supporters and regularly presides over music-led warm-ups, the big wheeled speaker often rolled out by Michael Olise. Playlists are typically chosen by Olise and Jamal Musiala.
Warm-up music has become a ritual, spanning niche rap to chart hits, and Julian Nagelsmann has adopted the idea with the national team.
Studies suggest music can lift physical and psychological readiness, then aid recovery. It can also synchronise minds and strengthen cohesion, useful when split-second collective decisions are needed in team sport. The logic is to mirror the indoor pre-activation environment outdoors in good weather, and Munich has even seen visiting NFL teams warm up to music.
