Arsenal face arguably the toughest test of their early Champions League campaign as they host Atletico Madrid tonight.
The Gunners have made a 100 per cent start to the league phase of Europe’s elite club competition this season, recording back-to-back 2-0 victories over Athletic Club and Olympiacos.
It is part of a fine opening to the campaign overall from Arsenal, who have produced an early three-point lead at the Premier League summit following another controlled win away at London rivals Fulham on Saturday evening.Mikel Arteta’s side - who boast one of the best defensive records anywhere in Europe so far this term with only three goals conceded - are also through to the Carabao Cup last 16, where they will host Brighton next week following a 2-0 victory at third-tier Port Vale last month.
However, things are now stepping up in the Champions League, with seasoned campaigners Atletico likely to provide a stern challenge at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
Diego Simeone’s side are similar to Arsenal in many respects and have already demonstrated their goalscoring prowess this season, beating rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in LaLiga and also hitting five at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in their last Champions League outing, following a dramatic late 3-2 loss to Liverpool at Anfield last month in which Simeone became embroiled in an ugly row with Reds fans to earn a one-match touchline ban.
Most Champions League fixtures are still televised live in the UK on TNT Sports, but that is not the case for Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid this evening.
That is because, as part of a new three-year shared broadcast deal agreed before the start of last season, Amazon Prime Video still have the first pick of one Champions League match to be broadcast live and exclusively in the UK on Tuesday nights.
Liverpool’s latest showdown with Real Madrid at Anfield will also be shown live on Amazon Prime during the next round of fixtures on November 4, with Chelsea vs Barcelona also selected on November 25.
Liverpool are back on Amazon Prime when they travel to meet Inter Milan on December 9.
Gabby Logan will host the coverage of Arsenal against Atletico, with former Gunners duo Theo Walcott and Gael Clichy on punditry duty.
Champions League icon Clarence Seedorf is also part of the coverage, with Alan Shearer commentating alongside Jon Champion and Mark Clattenburg on hand as a referee pundit.
