Jack Grealish has been one of Everton’s best performers this season, but he will be watching from the sidelines this afternoon as his teammates take on Manchester City.

The winger has been instrumental to the Toffees’ strong start to the season, providing four assists in seven appearances as the creative hub for David Moyes’ side.

Grealish was the hero for Everton last day out, snatching a late winner to complete a brilliant comeback against Crystal Palace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 30-year-old’s importance to the Merseyside outfit was recognised by the Premier League, who presented him with the Player of the Month award for August. His presence will be sorely missed at Eastlands on Saturday.

After falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola, Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window.

As per the Premier League’s rules, a player on loan cannot play in a match against their parent club in either the Premier League or FA Cup.

That means Grealish is ineligible to face Man City this weekend or when they meet again on 2nd May.

Will Jack Grealish join Everton permanently?

Given his lack of gametime at City, it would not be a shock to see him join Everton on a permanent basis when his loan stint ends next summer.

The money needed to make that happen could be an obstacle, however. The club have an option to buy the England international for £50 million, while his high wages would be difficult to match.

Additionally, Guardiola has not closed the door on Grealish’s City career. “I think he has a contract for one more year with us,” the manager said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“The important thing is he is back. He is a massive influence in the Everton games. After what’s happened, maybe Manchester City want him back, but I don’t know.

“Many things are still going to happen. We’ll see.

“The important thing is he is playing again, a lot of minutes. This is the standard. I’m happy, really, honestly, that he’s back in, trying his best.”
