Why LaLiga has scheduled matchday 33 before 32 | OneFootball

LaLiga EA Sports has taken the unusual step of playing matchday 33 before 32, citing organisational and security needs. The tweak means, for example, Valencia face back to back away trips, opening the round in Mallorca after visiting Elche on 11 April.

As reported by Superdeporte, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol and LaLiga agreed the switch to give the Copa del Rey final full billing. Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad met on 18 April without league clashes that weekend.

Matchday 33 has been set for midweek, 21, 22 and 23 April. Matchday 32 moves to the following weekend, 25 to 27 April.

Real Sociedad lifted the cup at La Cartuja in Seville, and the city hosts the Feria de Abril on 25 and 26 April. Nearby Jerez stages the Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix the same weekend, stretching logistics and security, which forced the reshuffle.

This week Real Betis and Sevilla FC are both away, in Girona on Tuesday and in Valencia on Thursday. For matchday 32, Real Betis v Real Madrid at the Villamarín is brought forward to Friday 24 at 21:00, and Sevilla FC visit Osasuna in Pamplona on Sunday 26 in the afternoon.

The reversal leaves teams tackling matchday 33 before 32 at a decisive phase of the campaign.
