Lea Schuller’s arrival at Manchester United has been confirmed – and the striker has spoken to the club’s media channels about what she hopes to contribute to the side.
The 28-year-old joins from Bayern Munich, and says she thinks she will fit in well with a team who like to attack and create plenty of chances.
Saying that her initial talk with head coach Marc Skinner persuaded her that the club would suit her, she said: “I was very happy to have this talk and after, of course, I saw the games, and I think that this team and the way they play football can fit me very well.”
She added: “I hopefully will score many goals here, but I think exactly this direct play is what is my strength too. I hope I can help the team.”
She explained that she thinks that heading the ball is one of her strengths, saying: “It looks like the team bring many crosses – that’s perfect for me.”
Schuller has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern Munich, helping them to win four Bundesliga titles and the DFB Cup in more than five years there.
Internationally, she has 82 international caps and 54 goals for Germany.
When her signing was announced, Schuller said in quotes distributed to media: “From the first conversations that I had with Marc and the club, the ambitions of everyone here were very clear. I still have so much that I want to achieve in my career, and I know that Manchester United is the perfect club to join.
“I feel that the team’s style of football will really suit my game, I hope my qualities and experience can help us to achieve our aims both in England and in the Champions League.”
And Matt Johnson, the club’s director of women’s football, said: “Lea’s goalscoring record is phenomenal, her style of play will give our attack an exciting new dimension. We are delighted to add a player of her pedigree to the group.
“Lea’s winning mentality and experience will really help our young and ambitious team as we continue to grow together and compete across domestic and European competitions.”
