Leeds United are expected to announce James Trafford as their third summer signing, and attention has turned to Max Aarons, the full-back who apologised to Daniel Farke after snubbing a reunion.
According to Leedsunited.news, Trafford addresses the goalkeeping void, with Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow gone and Lucas Perri likely to depart once Trafford arrives.
Aarons was widely linked with Leeds in 2023 and was heading for a medical when Bournemouth hijacked a £12m deal. He chose Premier League football over reuniting with Farke and later issued a message praising the head coach and expressing gratitude for his backing.
Farke previously lauded Aarons’ progress at Norwich City as the defender passed 100 appearances, noting his humility and room to improve in the final third. Since leaving Carrow Road, Aarons has been loaned to Valencia and then Rangers after joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2023.
With Sam Byram gone, Leeds lack reliable cover when James Justin is unavailable or used in a back three, leaving only three senior full-backs for two positions. Aarons appears out of the picture at Bournemouth after two loans and still has three years left on his deal, so a change of scene looks necessary. A loan to Leeds could be explored given his contract length, though Bournemouth may push for a sale, and any purchase would likely be at a modest fee.
