Some significant sales are expected at Anfield this summer.

Liverpool will need to recoup funds in order to spend in the transfer window, and several first-team players could be sold.

One of the names being heavily linked with an exit is Alisson Becker, who is being chased by an increasingly confident Juventus.

The Brazilian’s departure would leave the Reds needing another ‘keeper, especially with Freddie Woodman set to leave for free in the summer.

There is an obvious candidate to be Alisson’s successor and the Anfield faithful know him well, but the club made the decision to sell him last summer.

That man is of course Caoimhin Kelleher, and the Irishman needs to be the first one through to door at Anfield this summer.

Liverpool need to bring Kelleher back if Alisson is sold

Although bringing a player back only 12 months after they are sold is a rarity in football, it is the smartest business Liverpool could do this summer.

The 27-year-old has been an excellent addition to a Brentford side that are now challenging for European qualification.

Liverpool would no doubt have to shell out considerably more than the £12.5 million they received for Kelleher last summer, but even paying triple that price you would be hard pressed to find a better ‘keeper.

Additionally the Irishman qualifies as a homegrown player, a metric that will be incredibly important for the Reds this summer, and is already familiar with Arne Slot’s style of football and backline.

Giorgi Mamardashvili remains at the club, but many supporters have doubts over his ability to step up to the first-choice spot and Kelleher would provide a healthy level of competition.

Having broken the bank to sign the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike last summer funds won’t be free flowing at Liverpool this year, and Kelleher would be a very smart addition.
