Michael Frey has signed a fresh deal at QPR despite the club initially triggering a contract extension at the end of last season.
There is a good feeling around Queens Park Rangers right now, and further good news emerged, with the club announcing that Swiss forward Michael Frey has signed a new contract on the back of three straight wins.
QPR began life under new boss Julien Stephan in difficult form, having drawn their opening fixture at home to Preston North End, what followed was three straight losses on the bounce.
A 3-2 defeat away to League One Plymouth Argyle in the League Cup, a 2-1 defeat away to Watford and a humiliating 7-1 battering away to Coventry City had alarm bells ringing early on, but French boss Stephan has since answered back at critics emphatically.
The R's have won three games on the spin since their tough start, with victories over Charlton Athletic, Wrexham and most recently Stoke City seeing them climb the table, and are in fact now on level points with Coventry despite their fixture.
The feel-good factor surrounds the club right now ahead of their trip to Sheffield Wednesday next weekend, with the announcement that Swiss forward Frey has signed a new deal with the club only adding to that.
Having joined the club in January 2024 from Belgian side Royal Antwerp, Frey enjoyed a prosperous career around Europe which had seen him play for clubs such as Lille, Fenerbahce and Schalke.
Since his arrival in the English capital, Frey has struggled to really get going in QPR colours, despite him ending last season as the side's top goalscorer with nine goals.
With Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrel both impressing up top and providing competition for Frey, this contract extension has come at a somewhat unexpected time, with club CEO Christian Nourry explaining the reason behind his extension.
Nourry said: "We are happy to renew our commitment to Michi.
"In his time at QPR, he has acclimatised to the rigours of the Championship, finishing the 2024/25 campaign as our top scorer in all competitions.
"His battling qualities, big heart, aerial ability and relentless pursuit of improving and bettering himself and others on the pitch will be in evidence again in the coming weeks and months."
Frey followed up by saying: "I feel very good, I feel happiness. I feel like this is home, it's like family now.
"We have stayed two seasons in the league and now this season, maybe we want to have a bit more, but we have to work very hard for it.
"There is intensity in the training and I really hope we can do good things. The aim this season is not to be fighting relegation, it's to be at the better end of the table."
With Kone and Burrell providing competition for Frey up top, the options surrounding the sole striker spot in Stephan's preferred 4-2-3-1 is impressive.
Burrell and Kone are both capable of playing off of each other in the 10 role, but aside from that, the R's possess the likes of Koki Saito, Harvey Vale, Kwame Poku, Ilias Chair, Karamoko Dembele, Paul Smyth and Rayan Kolli in attacking areas.
QPR fans will be hoping that this recent spell of good form with provide the club a platform to build off moving forward this campaign, as they look to aim towards the top of the table instead of the bottom half.
Frey will no doubt have a huge impact to play this season, and with the 31-year-old seemingly happy to play as a rotation option to Kone, who he can mentor, QPR are in an exciting place.
